Sheet material storage, properly

Sheet material is the worst thing in any workshop to store badly. Leaned against a wall it bows, the faces get scuffed, the bottom edge takes damage, and getting the sheet you want means moving every sheet in front of it. Proper sheet racking pays for itself in scrap avoided long before it pays for itself in space.

Vertical or horizontal

Vertical racking is right for most workshops. Sheets stay flat against their supports, damage is limited to the edge rather than the face, and one person can draw a sheet out without help. Horizontal stacking suits high volume of a single material where a forklift or vacuum lifter does the handling.

Bay spacing is the decision that matters

Bays that are too wide let sheets bow and slump against each other. Bays that are too narrow mean you cannot get gloved hands in to lift a sheet clear. Work from the thickest and thinnest material you actually hold, and separate grades or finishes into their own bays if the faces matter.

Full height or multi height

A full height rack gives maximum capacity per square metre of floor and suits a single sheet size. A multi height rack with bays of different widths suits a mixed store, where offcuts and part sheets otherwise end up leaning on the full ones.

Fixing and safety

Tall sheet racks must be bolted down. A loaded rack carries a great deal of weight high up, and sheet material shifts when you pull one out. Ours are pre-drilled for floor fixing as standard.

Built to your material

Every rack is fully welded from British steel and made to order, so bay count, spacing and height are set around what you actually store. Send us your sheet sizes and quantities and we will size it properly rather than sell you a standard bay that nearly fits.
