Industrial racking for awkward stock
General shelving handles boxes. It does not handle bar, tube, sheet or board, and trying to make it do so is how workshops end up with material on the floor, stock nobody can find, and damage that never gets counted as a cost. Racking for long and flat material is a different discipline, and it starts with what you hold rather than with a catalogue.
Bar and long material
Bar, tube and section can be stored upright in separated bays where floor space is the constraint, or horizontally on cantilever arms where lengths are long and loading is done by crane or forklift. Vertical suits mixed short stock picked by hand. Cantilever suits full lengths and heavier sections.
Sheet and board
Sheet material wants to be vertical, in bays sized to the thickness and grade you hold, with enough room to get hands in without scuffing the faces. Bay spacing matters more than total capacity, because bays that are too wide let sheets bow against each other.
Sizing racking properly
Work from your longest length, your heaviest bay when full, and how the material is loaded and picked. Those three answers determine the rack. Everything else is finish. The most common mistake is sizing on average stock rather than on the awkward end of the range, and the awkward end is exactly what causes damage.
Floor fixing
Anything tall and loaded should be bolted down. Ours are pre-drilled for floor fixing as standard.
Made to order in Britain
All our racking is fully welded from British steel at our own works. Because we manufacture rather than import, bay spacing, height and capacity are set around your stock. Send us the material sizes and quantities and we will size it properly.
