About us

Our journey from a small, family-run business to becoming a leading UK manufacturer of workbenches.

2011

Our journey began

Founded by Lee Burnham in 2011, UK Workbenches Ltd was born from a vision to create durable, fully-welded workbenches that could withstand the toughest demands. With a commitment to British craftsmanship and quality, we set out to fill a gap in the market and deliver products that stand the test of time.
2012

Finding Our First Home

In 2012, after a year of initial growth, we moved into our first proper manufacturing unit at Ridgefield Mill, Failsworth. This marked a significant step for us, allowing our small family business to scale production and serve more customers with high-quality, British-made workbenches.

2013

Expanding Our Product Line

In 2013, we expanded our product line to include high-quality tool trolleys, complementing our workbench range. This was a natural progression for our business, allowing us to meet the growing demands of our customers and further establish our presence in the UK manufacturing market.

2014

Embracing Innovation

In 2014, we took a major step forward by transitioning from traditional pen-and-paper designs to a full CAD system for our workbench designs. This upgrade allowed us to enhance precision, streamline production, and offer even more customization options to our customers, marking a pivotal moment in our journey.
2016

A Year of Expansion

In 2016, we moved to a new, larger unit at the Glover Centre to support our growing business. This year also marked the launch of our first online store, making it easier than ever for customers to browse and purchase our British-made workbenches and tool trolleys.

2017

Bringing It All In-House

In 2017, we made a significant leap by bringing key processes in-house, including powder coating and worktop manufacturing. This allowed us to maintain tighter control over quality and streamline production, ensuring that every part of our workbenches and trolleys met the highest standards of British craftsmanship.

2018

Building the Next Generation

In 2018, Lee’s nephew, Ben, a skilled engineer and electrician, joined the company, bringing technical expertise to enhance our operations. Around the same time, Lee’s son, Aaron, began his career at UK Workbenches, training across all areas of the business and working closely alongside his dad. This marked a key moment in the family’s commitment to growing the business and continuing the tradition of craftsmanship.
2021

Investing in Advanced Technology

In 2021, we took a significant step toward improving our production capabilities with the acquisition of a state-of-the-art CNC punching machine. This investment allowed us to increase precision and efficiency in manufacturing, ensuring that our workbenches and trolleys continued to meet the highest standards of quality.

2022

Expanding Our Product Range

In 2022, we expanded our product line to include racking systems, allowing us to offer a more comprehensive solution for organising workspaces. This addition was a direct response to customer demand and helped solidify our position as a trusted manufacturer of high-quality, British-made workbenches and storage solutions.

2023

A New Digital Era

In 2023, we introduced a new website and marketing strategy, which helped grow the business significantly. The updated website made it easier for customers to explore our products and place orders, while the marketing efforts expanded our reach, bringing UK Workbenches to a wider audience.
2024

Product Expansion and British Recognition

In 2024, we introduced a new range of cupboards, further expanding our product offering. This year, we also became official members of the “Made In Britain” scheme, a recognition reserved for manufacturers who create products entirely from British components. This certification highlights our dedication to using locally sourced materials and upholding British craftsmanship.

2025 and beyond

Embracing the Future

In 2025, we plan to launch a new website featuring a visual configurator, allowing customers to quickly visualise and customise their workbenches. This tool will provide faster, more accurate product representations, enhancing the customer experience.

Looking beyond 2025, we’re excited to explore new opportunities for growth, including expanding our product range and improving manufacturing capabilities, all while staying true to our family values and commitment to British craftsmanship.
